NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3000 Mobility Series, 1H 2021 roadmap and support for AMD processors!

Good news: NVIDIA’s RTX 3000 mobility series will land in January 2021 and the company is finally moving forward with support for AMD mobility processors for its high-end GPUs. NVIDIA RTX 3080 and 3070 Mobility GPUs Land January 2021 on ASUS and MSI Laptops, Rest to Follow in April

Let’s start with NVIDIA’s full mobility lineup and roadmap for the first half of 2021. The company plans to introduce the RTX 3080, RTX 3070, and RTX 3060 GPUs to replace its SUPER lineup and the RTX 2060. For the first half of the year 2021, NVIDIA does not plan to replace the GTX 1660 Ti, GTX 1650 Ti, and GTX 1650. We were told that the RTX 3080 and RTX 3070 mobility GPUs will be accelerated to land in January 2021, however, the GPUs will initially only be available in the ASUS and MSI flavors. HP, Dell and Lenovo have reportedly decided to wait until April to support these new GPUs, as they want to tie them in with the launches that are taking place at that time. For this reason, the RTX 2080 SUPER and RTX 2070 SUPER mobility GPUs are expected to be EOL-ed in January 2021 (no word on RTX 2070 mobility at this time).

The GTX 1650 Ti and GTX 1660 Ti in 1h 2021 do not appear to be the same as the ones currently shipping (note that NVIDIA has chosen to put them in a new box as opposed to the same box for the GTX 1650) although we do not. let’s not be sure what the changes will be. My source also mentioned that they expected the RTX 30 mobility series to have a very short lifecycle (given that there are rumors that NVIDIA is considering upgrading to 7nm TSMC for its variants. NVIDIA expects laptops priced around $ 699 to have the GTX 1650, with the GTX 1650 Ti and GTX 1660 Ti priced at $ 799 to $ 899, with RTX 3060 breaking the $ 999 mark, RTX 3070 at $ 1,299 and RTX 3080 at $ 1999. Keep in mind that these are only * suggested * manufacturer prices and there is no guarantee that we will actually see them in actual prices for all NVIDIA based laptops.

However, according to my source, retailers that receive large grants from NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel (like Walmart) should be able to hit these prices fairly easily. Either way, you cut it though, gaming performance by the dollar is will drop past the $ 999 mark and you’ll see actual SKUs hitting those prices (likely from Walmart) by early 2021. Prices for the rest of the retailers, however, will likely be expensive at launch and won’t normalize until after for other sellers to enter the ring in April 2021.

NVIDIA’s high-end mobility GPUs to finally support AMD processors

NVIDIA also provided recommended specs (laptops) for its mobility GPUs in the presentation and a major announcement here is support for the next generation of AMD Ryzen with its high-end GPU lineup. Due to the PCIe bottleneck on Renoir, you could only get an RTX 2060 with an AMD processor. However, once the AMD 5000 (Cezzane-H) series arrives, that will change with the high-end NVIDIA GPUs available for free also on AMD and Intel parts (TigerLake H).
