NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ethereum hash rate limiter is unlocked

Just before NVIDIA shipped its new GeForce RTX 3060 graphics card last month, the company announced that the GPU’s cryptocurrency mining capabilities will be boosted at launch. A company representative had said that there would be a secure handshake between the driver, RTX 3060 chip, and BIOS (firmware) to prevent users from removing the hash rate limiter, especially if you are mining for Ethereum. NVIDIA also stated that it would not be possible to revert to an older version of the driver to restore the card’s original extraction capability.

The miners didn’t have to wait too long, however, as last week there were reports of the successful removal of mining restrictions on the Geforce RTX 3060. Although these were found to be incorrect as the screen allegedly showed an entirely different cryptocurrency, new confirmations have now called into question NVIDIA’s unbreakable restriction. Several reports claim it once again, claiming that they can mine Ethereum to the full potential of the card.

As first reported by PC watch, Ethereum’s mining restrictions can be bypassed without the need to change the driver or BIOS.

Apparently, it’s possible to bypass the RTX 3060’s hash rate limiter by simply using the GeForce 470.05 beta driver that NVIDIA distributed to developers through the Windows Insider program. As Computer base and user messages on the forum Guru3D and DC inside Point out that installing the beta driver automatically unlocks mining performance for most RTX 3060 GPUs.

During the announcement of the new mining restriction, NVIDIA also announced a new line of products specifically designed for mining Ethereum and other cryptocurrencies. CMP, or Cryptocurrency Mining Processor, was launched by the company to specifically address Ethereum’s mining needs while ensuring that the RTX 3060 ends up in the hands of gamers, as intended. But the release of this beta pilot – although probably unintentional – jeopardizes the launch of this new product line.
