Nvidia has issued a security alert for previous versions of its display drivers. A problem with its latest set of drivers could expose users to denial of service attacks and the disclosure of personal information to hackers.
ThreatPost reports on the Nvidia security bulletin and explains that the problem comes from the kernel mode layer management component of the driver. The shared data was not properly synchronized, which opened a vulnerability to malicious attacks, according to the Nvidia release statement.
The pilot's installer also posed a very risky security threat. ThreatPost notes that the program did not correctly load the Windows system DLLs without validating their paths or their signatures.
In practice, this means that if you use an Nvidia product, such as one of its GTX-based GPUs, you need to check that your drivers are up-to-date. The updated version, at the time of writing this article, is 430.64.
You can check the version of your driver by opening the Nvidia Control Panel from the system tray or from the Windows Start menu. Click the System Information link in the lower-left corner of the window to find the version of the GeForce driver you are currently using.

If you have a GeForce experience installed, you can have it update your driver automatically. Open the application, click Drivers, and then click Check for Updates to make sure you're up to date. If this is not the case, GeForce Experience will download and install the driver for you.

Otherwise, go to the Nvidia download area to find the appropriate drivers for your graphics card. You will need to enter some information about your GPU and your system, but you will be able to find the updated drivers there.
