Some of New York’s most prominent Republican women have ridiculed and scoffed at President Nancy Pelosi’s proposal to eliminate sexist language from official House rules.
“Instead of reviving the economy, restoring our constitutional freedoms and getting results for the American people, President Pelosi chose her first legislation – which would ban words like mother, sister and daughter,” said representative. upstate Elise Stefanik at The Post. “Obviously, it’s triggered by the historic number of GOP women elected to Congress who will fire Nancy Pelosi once and for all in 2022.”
Staten Island MP Nicole Malliotakis also had words for the new rules.
“There are millions of Americans suffering, our economy is suffering, vaccine delivery is lagging behind and Nancy Pelosi and the House Democrats are worried about this nonsense,” she said. “Here is a neutral word to describe this legislation: ridiculous.”
The proposed changes to House of Representatives rules would “respect all gender identities” by removing specific terms such as mother and father, son and daughter, aunt and uncle.
Instead, only gender-neutral terms such as “parent”, “child”, “brother or sister” and “parent’s brother or sister” would be permitted in the text of the bylaws.
Outrage even went to the second round of the Georgia Senate, where the Republican Kelly Loeffer warned that was reason enough to vote for her.
“The priorities of the far left, everyone. If you still wish you could call yourself father, daughter, mother or son, vote for me and @Perduesenate on Tuesday, ”she tweeted on Saturday, adding,“ Sincerely, a proud daughter. “
Meanwhile, the main Democrats in Congress have been given the new regulations.
“I am proud to kick off the 117th Congress with these historic rule changes,” said Representative Jim McGovern said in a tweet.
Pelosi touted the new rules, calling them “the most inclusive in history.”
However, Pelosi and McGovern continue to use gender-specific terms to describe themselves on their respective Twitter pages on Saturday.
The new rules are expected to be voted on when the House meets again on Sunday.
Rules also received a big boost from the Progressive Queens / Bronx Rep. said she was “Grateful for the leadership of @ RepMcGovern” during the process.
A Capitol Hill insider told the Post that the idea to remove gender from the new rules package likely came from the House’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion. The same rules also enshrined the office as a permanent new addition to the Capitol.
The agency was created by the Democrats in one of their first acts at the start of the previous Congress.
“This office is responsible for submitting to Congress a diversity plan to direct and guide offices employing the Chamber to recruit, hire, train, develop, advance, promote and retain a diverse workforce,” reads its official page about.
