A New York Police Department officer took a page from the ingenious TV problem-solver MacGyver after he used an empty bag of crisps and duct tape to slow the bleeding from a stabbed victim, the report said on Sunday. police.
Police body camera video released by the department showed Constable Ronald Kennedy placing the bag over the man’s wound.

The officer used the makeshift tourniquet on July 7 after responding to a report of a stabbing in Harlem, the NYPD information office said.
The victim, a 28-year-old man, was stabbed in the chest, the department said.
“Go get me a bag of crisps right now,” Kennedy said on the body camera recording. A bodega of “chopped cheese” is visible in the background.
“Relax,” he told the victim.
After a passer-by brought the officer an unopened bag of Lays crisps, Kennedy hastily opened and emptied it, the crisps falling to the floor. He then said to the passerby, “Come in over there and get me a tape.” “
He asked two other people to help him lay the victim on the ground. With wrapping tape in hand, he used it to secure the flattened bag to the man’s bloody chest.
“We have you, we have you,” Kennedy told the victim. “Stay with me.”
When paramedics arrived Kennedy said, “I tried. It’s the best I can do with what I have.”
He helped paramedics remove the bag and apply gauze to the wound.
“Keep breathing, my brother,” Kennedy said.
Kennedy was assisted by Officer Matthew Grieve, the department said.
The victim was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals / Harlem in critical condition, police said. The NYPD said in a statement in the edited body camera video that the attending physician attributed the man’s survival to Kennedy’s actions that night.
The victim was still in hospital in critical but stable condition, police said on Sunday.
On July 11, police arrested Eric Rodriguez, 38, on suspicion of attempted murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon in connection with the knife attack, police said. New York prison records show he was released on Friday. No reason was given.
It was not known on Sunday whether Rodriguez had hired a lawyer. New York County Defense Services did not immediately respond to a request for information.
