The New York Police Department (NYPD) has released new footage of an anonymous woman who falsely accused the son of jazz trumpeter Keyon Harrold of stealing his phone from a New York hotel lobby.
In surveillance footage released Wednesday, the woman can be seen grappling with the ground at 14-year-old Keyon Harrold Jr, who is black.
Ben Crump, the family’s attorney, is asking the Manhattan district attorney to lay charges of assault and assault against the woman.
“We met with the district attorney and he informed us that they had seen the hotel surveillance video and that it was very disturbing,” Mr. Crump said Wednesday according to ABC News.
The woman’s phone was reportedly returned to the hotel by an Uber driver shortly after the incident, the musician said.
On Tuesday, the NYPD announced that it plans to increase the charges against the woman after reviewing footage of the incident.
Chief Detective Rodney Harrison said authorities were looking to “charge this individual with assault and possibly even consider a grand theft or maybe even attempted theft,” according to The New York Post.
Police have identified the woman in the video, but she has yet to come forward and lives out of state, according to ABC News.
The broadcaster said he was unable to “corroborate his account with investigators or with the hotel where the incident took place” and the woman also failed to provide evidence to the broadcaster. support for its claims.
“After agreeing to provide evidence that might help confirm her claim that she was assaulted, she stopped answering CNN’s phone calls and texts,” CNN said.
The outlet did not identify the woman outside of her age because “she said she had concerns for her safety unrelated to this incident.
According to the outlet, the woman expressed concern over possible charges and her portrayal in the video, adding that she would be willing to cooperate with the investigation.
