A spokesman for a university said Tuesday in a statement to The Georgetown Voice that Ernst had left his role "following an internal investigation that had revealed that he had violated the university rules regarding admissions ".
Ernst was put on administrative leave at the University of Rhode Island on Tuesday after the announcement of federal charges.
