Former President Barack Obama has said he believes President Trump garnered more than 73 million votes in this election cycle, not because of politics, but because some Republicans were promoting a rhetoric that “ white men are victims ”.
Appearing on the syndicated radio show “The Breakfast Club,” Obama said Wednesday: “What always interests me is the degree to which you have seen the feeling in Republican politics created that white men are victims. . ”
The country’s 44th president continued by noting: “They are the ones who are under attack – which obviously does not line up with history, data and economics. But it’s a sincere belief that’s been internalized, it’s a story being told and how you relax that won’t be something that gets done right away, it’s going to take time.
Obama said in the interview that the Trump administration “has failed miserably in managing the basic care of the American people and their security” during the coronavirus pandemic. Still, Trump launched a competitive fight against President-elect Joe Biden, Obama said, because millions of people felt “under attack” by Democrats.
“It turns out that politics is not just about politics, it’s not just about numbers, but also the stories that are told,” said the former president.

Later on the show, co-host DJ Envy asked Obama to respond to those who said he didn’t do enough for people of color during their tenure. Obama blamed the obstacles in Congress.
“I understand that because when I was elected there was so much excitement and hope, and I also think we generally think of the presidency as almost a monarchy in the sense that once the president is there , he can just do whatever needs to be done and if he doesn’t, it must be because he didn’t want to do it, ”Obama replied.
Envy argued that Trump behaved this way.
“Because he is breaking the laws or breaking the Constitution,” Obama replied.

In the same interview, Obama shot evangelical Hispanics who voted for Trump.
“People were surprised by a lot of Hispanics who voted for Trump, but there are a lot of evangelical Hispanics who, the fact that Trump says racist things about Mexicans, or puts undocumented workers in cages, they think it’s less important than whether he supports their views on gay marriage or abortion, ”Obama said.
Trump has said he is pro-life but has never expressed opposition to gay marriage.
Trump surprised political spectators with his best performance among Hispanic voters in 2020 from 2016, helping him achieve comfortable victories in states with sizable Hispanic populations like Texas and Florida.
Some critics attacked Obama for what they saw as divisive comments, recalling his 2008 reference to “bitter” working-class voters “clinging” to guns and religion. Others noted that the “cages” he referred to in the Trump administration’s family separation policy were built during his presidency.
Meanwhile, Biden has sought to establish himself outside the Obama administration, telling NBC News that his White House will not be an “Obama third term.”
