Target on Thursday announced plans to open Apple mini-stores in select locations this month, doubling the tech giant’s footprint inside stores.

The so-called “dedicated Apple shopping destinations” will first be rolled out at 17 Target stores across the country, ranging from San Jose, Calif., To Miami, the retailer said. Additional locations will be deployed by the end of this fall.

While Target already offers Apple products, the new dedicated spaces will expand the “Apple product assortment” online and in stores, Target said.
In these locations, Apple products and accessories will be on display in one location that will be “designed for customers to experience new products through demonstrations” by “Target Tech Consultants, who will receive specialized training from Apple.”

“The retail collaboration builds on Target’s 15-plus-year relationship with Apple by combining Apple’s latest products with convenient shopping experience and fulfillment services,” Target said.
Target’s chief growth officer, Christina Hennington, said the company “will continue to learn and improve the experience through future deployments later this year.”

The announcement comes after Target announced a solid run of sales during a holiday season surrounded by a pandemic, with sales up 102% between November and December.
Over the past year, the company has stepped up efforts to provide alternatives for customers trying to minimize the risk of contracting COVID-19.
