Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy has not been selected for any of the six NFL head coach openings this year, which means he will stay with Kansas City next season. It was the third year in a row that Bieniemy has applied for a vacant head coach position.
“I’m happy to have him (for at least another season), but I’m not so happy to have him,” Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said, according to ESPN. “I really hoped he would have the opportunity to take on one of these jobs. You know what I think of him. I think he’s awesome. I think it would be great for any number of teams that opened up and would help them win soccer games and develop men into men. I just think he’s a great person.
Bieniemy has been with Reid and Kansas City since 2013 when he was appointed running backs coach. In 2018, he was promoted to offensive coordinator. He made his NFL debut in 2006 as a running backs coach for the Minnesota Vikings. Under Bieniemy, the Chiefs had one of the most prolific offenses in the NFL, although Reid takes care of the primary play call duties.
