Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, DN.Y., explains that the biggest mistake she made in her first four months as a new member of Congress was: the launch of the so-called Green New Deal, its ambitious environmental plan to combat climate change, has been addressed.
"This has been done in such a way that it's easy to hijack the story," Ocasio-Cortez said in an interview with Yahoo's "Skullduggery" podcast on Sunday. "It was too fast."
In February, Ocasio-Cortez and Sen. Ed Markey, D-Mass., Presented this far-reaching proposal at a press conference at Capitol Hill, calling it a "first step" in the definition of an urgent environmental crisis facing the United States. . Conservative critics, including President Trump and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, were quick to make fun of the plan and its 29-year-old champion.
Last month, the Green New Deal failed the Senate after the Republicans, led by McConnell, pushed for a vote.
Ocasio-Cortez described the resolution itself as "very strong", but acknowledged that competing documents – including an erroneous FAQ – had been released prematurely and had "scrambled" the messages surrounding it.
This allowed the opponents of the plan to misinterpret the content of the plan.
