Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was among the House Democrats who stuck to the moderates on Thursday – threatening to run those who sided with the Republicans in the 2020 primary election, according to a new report.
The new extreme left-wing congressman led the charge behind closed doors, saying some of his moderate colleagues "are putting themselves on a list," his spokesman Corbin Trent told the Washington Post.
Ocasio-Cortez suggested that she would help liberal activists to overthrow the moderates in the upcoming elections.
"She said that when activists ask her why she should vote for a gun safety bill that gives more power to an organization that forcibly injects psychotropic substances into the children, they will want a list of names and she give it to them. , "Trent said, referring to US immigration and customs enforcement.
Nancy Pelosi, a tired president, called for unity within the party by informing her colleagues: "We are either a team or we are not, and we have to make that decision."
The explosion was sparked by a vote in the House Wednesday on a bill that would expand federal background checks on the sale of firearms to exhibitions and the Internet.
The bill was passed with a vote of 240-190.
But 26 moderate Democrats have side with the Republicans to amend the bill to include a provision requiring notification to ICE if an illegal immigrant wants to buy a gun, the Washington Post reported.
Another freshman, Rep. Xochitl Torres Small, of New Mexico, reacted against Ocasio-Cortez, urging him and his colleagues to understand the reality of representation of a pivotal district, told the Washington Post many people attending the meeting.
A Torres Small spokesperson did not respond to the newspaper's request.
Others are seeking to reform or completely abolish what is known as the "re-engagement motion" process that allowed for the amendment of the firearms bill. The process gives the minority party one last chance to make amendments just before the bill is put to the final vote.
