Oculus has unveiled its next PC-based VR helmet, the Rift S, integrated with the GDC 2019. The most notable improvement is the inclusion of built-in sensors for upside-down tracking. this means that you no longer need to configure external sensors if you are using an R-R. Additional details about Oculus Quest have also been announced, namely the company's future autonomous headset. Both packages will also include two Oculus Touch controllers.

Built-in sensors are what's known as Oculus Insight. They are able to play VR games in roving mode. The Rift S has five separate sensors on the helmet while the Quest has four. The visual quality of the Rift S is also improved: the total resolution of the LCD screen is 2560×1440 (1280×1440 per eye). However, the refresh rate has been slightly reduced from 90 Hz to 80 Hz. Oculus said that it was done to compensate for the increase in resolution to maintain the same hardware requirements on the PC for the games Oculus can work properly.

As for Quest specifications, it is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor with storage options from 64 GB. Oculus indicates that the headset resolution is 1600×1440 per eye on an OLED display with an overall refresh rate of 72 Hz.

Other notable improvements to the Oculus Rift S include the new headband. Its design is similar to that of the PlayStation VR with a ring-shaped headband that is simply adjusted with a dial at the back. The audio is built into the headset, so it's not necessary to have separate audio devices, but a 3.5mm audio jack still allows you to use your own headphones.

Oculus explained that the Rift S is not a "Rift 2" but a much better version of the original, because it will play all the same games and live in the same ecosystem. The game library of the Quest differs due to the lower specifications of the standalone headset; However, all the quest games will be playable on the flaw. More than 50 games will be available for Quest on launch day.

The Rift S and Quest helmets will be launched in spring 2019 for $ 400.
