Odd Tease in Division 2 Flips Beans on Next Assassin's Creed

An unusual teaser in the booty of Ubisoft Division 2, highlighted weeks after the game's release, reveals that the next Assassin's Creed the game is all about the Vikings. Kotaku can independently confirm the same thing.

Division 2 launched on March 15, but it's only this week that the discussion of a potential teaser at the Potomac Event Center in the Washington DC game has begun to make headlines. First made public by YouTuber JorRaptor, there are many posters throughout this event center, representing what appears to be a Nordic god or a traveler with the word Valhalla.

What is particularly interesting is that this traveler has what seems to be the apple of Eden, an essential technology in Assassin's Creed traditions.

Does this mean that the next Assassin's Creed, confirmed by Ubisoft as moving to 2019 and going directly to 2020 (just in time for the expected release of next generation consoles), is everything on the Vikings? Well yes. Yes. A few months before the appearance of this teaser, Kotaku learned from two independent sources familiar with the game that 2020 Assassin's Creed, code name Kingdom, is indeed a star of the Vikings. We do not know much else about the game, but after the phenomenal Assassin's Creed Odysseywe are happy to see what lies ahead.

Ubisoft declined to comment.

This teaser is strange. Ubisoft has a long history of teasing for future games in its current games, the most infamous with Pioneer, a project that has been shown in a Watch dogs 2 mission before it is canceled and then brought back to life in a different form. A new patch for Watch dogs 2 also dropped a major clue for Watchdogs 3telling the whole world that it would be in London (which is the case).

What is unusual about this tease in Division 2 is it subtle – who would have thought to look for the apple of Eden in this poster? It is unclear whether this has been officially endorsed by Ubisoft's headquarters or simply blocked by an insolent artist, but it's nonetheless fascinating.

Fans had long theorized that the next Assassin's Creed would be put in Rome after an old 4chan post that revealed precisely Assassin's Creed Origins before the announcement, it was part of a trilogy including games in Rome and Greece. Several recent rumors have inspired this theory, rumors almost certainly inaccurate. Vikings, ships and pirate raids are the way forward for Ubisoft in 2020.
