Odell Beckham Jr. could be as famous for his fashion sense as for his football game at this stage.
The former New York giant, who had been traded to Cleveland Brown earlier this year, caused a lot of social media buzz at ESPY 2019 on Wednesday night by posing in a Prada vest with a huge oversized pocket that triggered innumerable jokes and memes of social media.
The haute couture waistcoat – reminiscent of the Louis Vuitton "bibs" designed by Virgil Abloh and popularized by Timothée Chalamet and Michael B. Jordan – is from Prada's spring-summer 2020 collection, presented in Shanghai last month.
"Odell Beckham, now available as a Jansport backpack," tweeted a person. Others have compared it to a scout: "Odell Beckham Jr. is about to sell so many damn coins," commented another commentator.
Comparisons were also made with NFL photographers (wearing khaki-colored vests on the field) as well as a kangaroo, Adam Sandler's "Water Boy" character, Bobby Boucher, and a band-aid.
OBJ has paired its khaki vest with matching shorts and Nike Air Force 1 sneakers customized by the famous shoe surgeon Dominic Ciambrone.
The wide receiver has already won an ESPY award for Best Play and was nominated for the Breakthrough athlete in 2015. He handed former teammate and current Giant Saquon Barkley the Athlete Breakthrough Trophy last night.
