The New York Rangers made big news this morning by announcing an eight-year extension for center Mika Zibanejad.
As usual, as per team policy, the terms of the contract were not disclosed, but Larry Brooks had full details of the extension. This is an eight-year contract with an AAV of $ 8.5 million per year.
BREAKING: Rangers, Zibanejad agree to extension, Post has learned, eight years in the $ 8.5 million range … A year or two longer than NYR would have preferred, but allows AAV to be usable … Should put a damper on Eichel’s conversation.

Since arriving in New York City during the 2016 offseason, Zibanejad has become the role of Rangers’ 1C and a staple of the best power play unit. The Swedish hub scored 136 goals and 283 points in 323 Broadway games, solidifying his status as one of the league’s best crosses and quickly becoming a fan favorite in New York City. The eight-year deal also ends all Jack Eichel trade talks for the Rangers as they look to move forward with their top center locked down for the foreseeable future.
