Oh no, Steam keeps going down

Valve’s Steam video game store is currently down, with the servers obviously having collapsed a few hours ago. It’s extremely common for Steam to collapse at the start of a big sale, although these issues started around 18 hours after the Lunar New Year sale started, so I wonder if that’s really the cause. Either way, keep your pennies because we are still waiting for a lasting solution.

Steam appears to have stumbled around noon GMT with the store not loading, giving error messages or at least taking years. He seems to have a hard time getting back on his feet every now and then, when I think he’s fixed, pow, gone again. Right now I am seeing 502 gateway errors.

I only saw issues with the store myself, with friends, games and updates etc. still working fine, but obviously there were connection issues. Steam statistics show it suddenly lost over 2 million players around 13:40 GMT. Do they seem to be back now? For now, at least.

Anyway. All we can really do is wait for Valve to stabilize things. In the meantime, why not play Mystery Steam Reviews with Colm and Matthew? If you have enough perspective to guess all the games, you might be able to find out when Steam fixes properly.
