Ohio Rep. Bob Gibbs calls for articles of impeachment against Biden

A congressman from Ohio on Friday asked his colleagues at GOP House to consider filing articles of impeachment against President Biden for an “unconstitutional” order to extend the moratorium on evictions and for his “breach” of the duty to secure the southern border.

Representative Bob Gibbs, R-Ohio, sent a letter to fellow Republicans urging them to seek impeachment because Biden “continues to disregard his constitutional duties and limits,” he said.

Gibbs cites Biden bowing to progressive pressure this week to extend a moratorium on evictions from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), even after the president admitted he likely would not pass the constitutional rally. The White House has previously said its hands are tied by a recent Supreme Court opinion and that it cannot unilaterally extend tenant protections, but Biden has turned the tide after outrage from the left.

Separately, Gibbs said Biden failed to live up to his constitutional obligations by failing to secure the southern border and “worsening” the coronavirus pandemic by letting COVID-positive migrants into the country.

“The president is failing in his duty, having repeatedly stated that he does not have the power to extend the moratorium on CDC expulsions, and then extend it anyway,” Gibbs said in a statement. “His actions at the border represent neglect in America’s security. We must cut this off at the pass now and show that we will not support actions that are clearly unconstitutional.”

Any GOP effort to impeach Biden goes a long way since Republicans do not control the House or the Senate.

But Gibbs isn’t the first House Republican to call for impeachment:. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., Filed articles of impeachment against Biden the day after his inauguration.
