Ohio State basketball gets Jamari Wheeler from Penn State as graduate transfer

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State basketball team have added another point guard to their roster through Jamari wheeler.

The 6-foot-1, 170-pound guard will be spending his final season at Columbus as a graduate after spending the last four years at Penn State. He averaged 3.8 points and 3.5 assists starting 84 of 127 games during his career with the Nittany Lions. As a senior, he averaged 6.8 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists in 31.2 minutes per game.

The addition of Wheeler doesn’t solve OSU’s need for a reliable big man next season, but it does provide the Buckeyes with another quality ball handler with the CJ Walker’s graduation. Meechie Johnson Jr. is still expected to take over as the starting point guard. But Wheeler gives the team depth as a fourth guard with Jimmy Sotos – who is recovering from shoulder surgery – and leading scorer Duane Washington Jr.

Wheeler gives the Ohio State backcourt an elite perimeter defender, something this team has been lacking since Luther Muhammad moved to Arizona State after the 2019-20 season. He’s a player OSU could have used in their 75-72 loss to Oral Roberts in the first round of the NCAA tournament. The Florida native has been a selection for the All-Big Ten defensive team for the past two seasons.

Here’s what the Ohio State’s list looks like after Wheeler’s addition:
