Ohio State linebacker K’Vaughan Pope was escorted to the locker room by a team official in the second quarter of the game against Akron on Saturday night following a heated exchange with coaches on the sidelines.
The altercation would have been triggered when he had not been substituted on the field for a series.
In a pair of since-deleted tweets, Pope later wrote in the second quarter, “good luck (sic) to my teammates” and “f– ohio state”, misspelling obscenity.
The Big Ten Network, which was broadcasting the game, reported that Pope had left the team. He also threw his gloves in the stands in frustration before leaving the field, according to the broadcast.
Playing time has been scarce this season for Pope, a senior who has remained a replacement throughout his career with the Buckeyes.

Appearing in the first three games, he made three tackles and one pass break. In the last two games, against Oregon and Tulsa, he’s played 31 snaps in defense, according to Pro Football Focus, and only on special teams in the season opener at Minnesota.
The Buckeyes saw another linebacker leave the team earlier this week in Dallas Gant, who listed his name on the NCAA transfer portal.
