The Crimson Tide, after a 44-16 loss to Clemson in the College Football Playoff Championship, is No. 2. Clemson got 52 first-place votes and Alabama received the other 10. Clemson landed a record series of three consecutive years in which Alabama was preseason # 1.

Georgia, rival of the Southeast Conference of Alabama, is number 3, followed by number 4, Oklahoma, and number 5, Ohio State.
