Oklahoma, 70, arrested for taking away the corpse of his wife while traveling on the road

A man from Oklahoma was arrested Monday after police intercepted the 70-year-old driver in Arizona with his dead wife buckled in the passenger seat, authorities said.

Rodney Puckett was arrested for violating the Highway Code along Interstate 10 in Eloy, about 65 km southeast of Phoenix, when the detective noticed a dead woman sitting at his headquarters, announced the police in a statement.

Police identified the woman as Puckett's wife, Linda Puckett, 74 years old. The Oklahoma native told detectives that Linda had died in a Texas hotel in the middle of their trip, police said.

"He moved his body in their vehicle, continuing to their destination," police said.

An investigation was underway to determine whether Linda Puckett's death was the result of a homicide, police said.

It was not clear right away how long Puckett was traveling with his deceased wife. The statement did not specify the intended destination of Puckett.

Linda Puckett's body was handed over to the Pinal County Medical Examiner's office. Officials were working to determine whether his death was a homicide, the statement said.

Puckett was detained at Pinal County Jail under the charge of abandonment or concealment of a body. Police said he could face additional charges.
