Olivia Jade Giannulli made her debut in “Dancing with the Stars” a family affair.
Lori Loughlin and Mossimo Giannulli’s youngest daughter invited her older sister, Isabella “Bella” Giannulli, to the Season 30 premiere on Monday night, leaning on her for extra support.
“It was great having my sister in the crowd,” she told Page Six and other reporters at a press conference after the show. “She is my best friend in the world so her support is essential and it takes comfort to know that my older sister is there to watch me.
“I think the best advice she probably gave me was to just breathe,” she continued. “Before, she sent me a long text, like, ‘Take a deep breath. If you’re very nervous, you probably hold your breath a lot and don’t let go.
While Olivia, 21, certainly looked confident on the dance floor – she and her professional partner, Val Chmerkovskiy, received an impressive 25/40 score from the judges – she admitted there were definitely nerves, as Bella, 23, had expected.
“I think I was the most nervous just honestly [about] to be in a completely different element, to do something that I’ve never experienced before – generally playing, dancing, ”she explained. “But I’m happy. I think it happened… great? Yes!”
“I think it went well and I can’t wait to find out more,” she added.
Just before Olivia and Chmerkovskiy perform on Monday, the YouTuber tackled her family’s involvement in the college admissions scandal head-on in a pre-recorded video package.
“In recent years I have been involved in a scandal,” she said. “I stepped away from social media and just imbibed what everyone was saying. I’m not trying to draw a pity card, I just need to move on and do better.
Olivia and Bella’s parents pleaded guilty last May to bribing their daughters at the University of Southern California. Loughlin, 57, spent two months behind bars and was released in December. Fashion designer Target, 58, was allowed to serve the last days of his five-month sentence under house arrest and was recovered from prison by his family in April.
Olivia revealed earlier this month that her mom was already in “total mom mode” before her debut on “DWTS”.
“My mother was a huge support,” she told reporters, including Page Six, at the time. “She’s in total mom mode, like, ‘Make sure you take an Epsom salt bath. She’s trying to get me to take an ice bath! I’m like ‘I don’t need an ice bath yet!’ My sister [Bella] told me she wanted to come to every show.
She added, “I think this is such an amazing opportunity. I’m ready to get back on the road and try new things. I’m really excited to challenge myself and step out of my comfort zone, which I don’t do often.
“Dancing With the Stars” airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
