Olivia Rodrigo is not there for the fans trying to pit her against Sabrina Carpenter.
The “Sour” singer responded to fans who thought the lyrics to her single “Drivers License” were about the former Disney Channel starlet.
Rodrigo, 18, was featured for Variety’s Power of Young Hollywood issue where she spoke about the situation that followed after listeners heard the song.
Many fans believed the lyrics were about the alleged relationship between his “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series” co-star Joshua Bassett and Carpenter, 22.
The lyrics in question said, “And you’re probably with that blonde girl / Who always made me doubt / She’s so much older than me / She’s everything I’m not sure.”
Rodrigo explained to the point of sale that she was not prepared for the emotion her words would provoke. “I turned it off not knowing it would get this reaction so it was really weird [when] it did, “said the” Good 4 U “rocker. “I just remember [everyone being] so weird and speculative about things they had no idea about.
“I don’t really subscribe to hating other women because of the boys,” Rodrigo explained. “I think it’s so stupid, and I really blame this story that has been started.”

Disney star Selena Gomez also crossed paths with Rodrigo. “I met Selena and she was so sweet,” Rodrigo said. “She told me a lot about prioritizing mental health, which I think is really important in this industry. We were all in the spotlight very young [and] it can be taxing on your psyche and can lead to all of these weird problems.
