As Page explains the song, it becomes clear that they aren’t as unfamiliar with Rodrigo as they seem. “I guess it’s a girl getting her driver’s license. It’s bittersweet because it’s something she and her ex have always talked about,” adds the clearly familiar Bennett. “That’s what I guessed hearing it for the first time now.”

The guys then go on to talk about what inspired the lyrics, including Rodrigo’s supposed relationship with High School Musical: The Musical: The Series costar Joshua Bassett, who would have played with Sabrina Carpenter.

Soon after, the guys find themselves listening to the emotional lyrics, using their pool cues as microphones. They then revealed their knowledge of young pop singers, comparing Rodrigo to Billie Eilish and Taylor Swift, before once again letting their emotions – triggered by the song – take over.

The sketch ended with the guys, arms around each other, singing the bridge at the top of their lungs.

Rodrigo, who just turned 18 on February 20, shared his enthusiasm for his debut single to be featured in a SNL sketch. “SNL SKETCH DRIVING LICENSE IS THE BEST BIRTHDAY EVER PRESENT IM SHAKING,” she tweeted.
