The Browns’ defensive line will miss an important piece when it travels to Pittsburgh for next Sunday night’s playoff game.

Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski announced Monday that defensive end Olivier Vernon had broken his Achilles in Sunday’s 24-22 victory over the Steelers. Vernon was rushed to the locker room early in the fourth quarter.

Vernon had two tackles for the loss and one sack in Sunday’s win. He had 36 tackles, nine sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovered in his 14 games this season.

The injury will prevent Vernon from playing and that will also have an impact on his offseason. Vernon is ready for free will and the timing of Achilles’ breakup will be the question of when he can return to the pitch.
