On The Verge is happening October 22-23, and you’re invited

Hello, Edge friends! It’s been almost 10 years since we launched (can you believe it?), And to celebrate, we’re having a big party. It’s happening October 22-23 in New York City – and we hope you’ll join us.

We are hosting this party at Spring Studios, which has a rich tradition of bringing together creative people to show the future of technology, art, and culture. The edge will completely transform the space for two days and fill it with special guests, live performances, interactive art and games, delicious food and drinks and an opening night.

Here are some of the things that excite us:

A Edge exclusive preview screening

Everyone who attends On The Verge will see the start of our biggest documentary yet, Springboard: The secret story of the first real smartphone. A decade before Steve Jobs introduced the iPhone, a small team of renegades imagined and tried to build the modern smartphone. Almost forgotten by history, a small startup called Handspring has split off from the mainstream tech world to try and invent the future before the present is ready. And while Handspring has been relegated to the fringes of tech history, many of the predictions they chased into the late ’90s would be correct. After the screening, we will host a live Q&A with Dieter and Nilay.

Live shows

Our opening night will include a live performance by The Stickmen: an incredible duo of DJs and drummers who will transform our exhibition space with sound and light. And we’ll have a great selection of other talented DJs to bring the space to life throughout the event.

A one-of-a-kind independent arcade

We brought together a group of extremely creative artists and designers to create On The Verge fun and interactive. This includes the folks at Wonderville Arcade in Brooklyn, who will be creating their unique line of games for guests to enjoy. (We’re especially excited about The Giffinator, which will allow you and your friends to put yourself and your friends inside a Edge Animated GIF.)

Experimental art

We bring together creators working on the edge of the future, including the talented Zach Lieberman: an artist, researcher and educator who creates performances and installations that take human gestures as input and amplify them in different ways. He brings several works to On The Verge, including Reflection studies, which will transform one of Spring Studios’ largest spaces into an interactive art experience.

The creators workshop

We are transforming the roof of Spring Studios into a space for interactive discussions, demonstrations and performances, including science and technology demonstrations, a creative illustration class, and a repair school hosted by our friends at iFixit. And if you just want to relax, you can take in spectacular views of the city while sampling some of the best food and drink it has to offer.

All day programming

On top of all that, our main stage will be jam-packed for both days of the event with live performances and discussions with special guests. Head over to the event website to find out more about who is coming.

It is The edge‘s first big event, and it won’t be the last. We hope you will join us as we embark on the next 10 years of The edge, which will be bigger, brighter and more exciting: just like the future we imagine.
