Welcome to ONE Championship, Eddie Alvarez.

Debuting for the Singapore-based promotion Sunday at the "A New Era" show in Tokyo, Japan, Alvarez was overwhelmed by renowned Russian artist Timofey Nastyukhin. The 29-year-old did not seem at all intimidated by former UFC lightweight champion and Bellator and put Alvarez at the mark at 4:05 of the first round.

"I feel very good," Nastyukhin later said via a translator. "It's my style, I like finishing the first round fights by knockout, so I managed."

In competition for the first time since the defeat against Tustin against Dustin Poirer UFC the FOX 30 last July, Alvarez (29-7, 1 NC) has struggled to impose against the aggressive Nastyukhin. He looked slow and expensive, while Nastyukhin finally found the beach and dropped Alvarez with forehands and split it with a straight right that resulted in the match be interrupted.

It was the second consecutive loss of 35-year-old Alvarez, who now has a one-two record and a no-contest match in his last four outings.

With this victory, Nastyukhin qualifies for the semi-finals of the ONE Lightweight Grand Prix.

"I did not think about it too much," Nastyukhin said of the final sequence. "I saw that he had been hurt, I saw the occasion and I seized him."
