One person died in a helicopter crash in upstate New York

A helicopter crash near Storm King Mountain, upstate New York, killed at least one on Sunday, state police said.

First responders responded to the crash near State Route 218 in Cornwall, Orange County, at 2:30 p.m., police said in a statement.

The pilot of the Robinson R44 helicopter was his only passenger, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the police.

An investigation by the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board is ongoing, federal officials said.

Storm King Mountain is located approximately 50 miles north of New York City.
