INDIANAPOLIS – Three people, including two children, were killed and seven people injured in a serious accident Sunday afternoon on Interstate-465 on the north side of Indianapolis.

Indianapolis fire department crews and other emergency personnel were called around noon. In a press release, the head of the IFD battalion, Rita Reith, announced in a press release that she was traveling on the eastbound lanes of I-465 near Keystone Ave. Upon arrival, they found a total of eight vehicles – six cars, a truck with a mobile home trailer and a semi-truck, involved in an accident.

Trailer driver Bruce Pollard, 57, was arrested on suspicion of three counts of irresponsible homicide and five counts of criminal uncertainty causing injury, according to an ISP tweet.

Pollard was employed by Weston Transportation of Sturgeon, Missouri, said Reith.

A woman and two children were killed when their car caught fire during the accident, Reith said.

A total of seven adults were transported to hospitals in the area, said Reith. Two were in serious condition and five were in good condition when they were transported from the accident.

Investigators believe the accident was caused by a 57 year old Missouri truck driver. A car, which was not involved in the accident, cut it, braked sharply and then spun quickly, said Reith. The truck driver stated that he had been forced to snap on his breaks and hit the cars in front of him. Witnesses told investigators that the driver had not seen the traffic jammed.

The IFD HazMat team was called to clean the truck's engine fluid leaks, Reith said.
