And one of the main strengths of the OnePlus 9 Pro is its reworked camera experience, which aims to correct some of the wrongs plaguing the flagship OnePlus lineup, namely the not-so-good color resolution. Compared to Galaxies and iPhones, which should probably be considered the benchmark for camera prowess, OnePlus devices have almost always produced images with slightly reddish and pinkish tones that have not been well received by critics neither by average OnePlus consumers, which is probably why the company has taken the Hasselblad partnership so seriously.

Some fairly marked color differences from the start! You might think these three photos were taken separately, but I assure you they were all taken within a minute. Still, some pretty stark contrasts can be drawn between the three images of this building with the colorful sunset oozing in the background. The OnePlus 7T Pro has capitalized on the slightly cooler purple hues which are excellent on their own, but newer phones have done a better job of capturing a more realistic sunset.
Scene 2
Turns out it’s hard to pose a baby for more than 10 seconds, but I managed to cope. This is another example where we notice a marked difference in color rendering. In this portrait scene, the OnePlus 9 Pro produced the most lifelike, lifelike image. It’s great, but it’s quite interesting that I personally like the OnePlus 8 Pro a lot more because the extra warmth adds so much character to the photo even though the colors aren’t accurate. There are also some visible separation artifacts, but even that is not enough to get me away. As for the OnePlus 7T Pro, it generally failed to produce a portrait image with a blurry background.
Scene 3
Time to activate.The OnePlus 9 Pro didn’t do such a good job in this scene – it’s a bit lifeless and dull. The OnePlus 7T Pro and 8 Pro did a much better job of capturing a beautiful image, and the OnePlus 7T Pro might as well be my favorite. Remember that all photos were taken with Nightscape mode explicitly enabled.
Scene 4
The OnePlus 9 Pro is, for me, a clear winner in this scene. And not because of the color rendering, but because of the details that just stand out. Despite the slight difference in framing, the OnePlus 9 Pro looks a lot better to me than its predecessors, although in all fairness the differences aren’t that big at all, which can be seen in two ways. On the one hand, this bodes well for the OnePlus 7T Pro which keeps its positions against its successors, but on the other hand, it clearly shows that the OnePlus 9 Pro introduces improvements in the key areas that matter.
Scene 5
There isn’t much of a difference in the overall camera quality in the selfies. The OnePlus 9 Pro has a bit more clarity and definition, but that’s all it offers compared to its predecessors. Again, isn’t that enough to justify a generational improvement? I think so, and when it comes to selfie cameras, that’s a good enough improvement.
