The Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus has been manufacturing phones for some years now, but 2019 marks several milestones for the company. This was the first time that OnePlus has released a series of phones in the first half of the year, two more than we expected – it's the OnePlus 7, OnePlus 7 Pro and OnePlus 7 Pro 5G. And the latter was the first 5G phone with the OnePlus brand, also one of the first 5G handsets to reach consumers. The innovations do not stop there: OnePlus will launch this year its first Smart TV models, followed by the redesigned OnePlus 7T Pro.

In accordance with the usual OnePlus mode, the company has started to make fun of its next product and, as expected, the TV channel will have a direct name, OnePlus TV.

We have known for about a year that television is on its agenda and OnePlus recently unveiled the official name and logo of the series. The company used Twitter to reveal the first specifications of OnePlus TV posting the following message:

The OnePlus TV will go into a 55-inch QLED version and we should not be surprised to see other sizes. Interestingly, the tweet was posted on the OnePlus Twitter account for India, which would be the first market of OnePlus TV.

In addition to the size of the screen, the tweet tells us that OnePlus is banking on QLED display technology, which could indicate that Samsung displays will be used in smart OnePlus TV models.

QLED should not be confused with OLED, which is currently the best type of TV display you can get. Although Samsung is the king of OLED screens for smartphones, it is LG that offers the best OLED experience in television.

QLED is a term coined by Samsung for quantum dot LED TVs, which use the same LED source as a conventional LED LCD TV. CNET has a great breakdown of the differences between QLED and OLED TVs, if you need more information.

The bottom line is that QLED TVs are much cheaper to manufacture than OLED TVs, while providing an exceptional experience. Thus, the revelation of the screen choice of OnePlus above also indicates that the OnePlus TV must be an affordable product, which we have always suspected. The fact that it uses the same screen technology as some of the best Samsung TVs does not hurt either.

OnePlus TV is expected to be unveiled in the coming weeks and launched by mid-October in India, at least according to some reports.
