OnePlus Remote TV Revealed with Google Assistant, USB-C

The slow revelation of the OnePlus TV continues with the controller of the device. CEO Pete Lau shared an image of the OnePlus TV remote on Twitter tonight.

The OnePlus TV remote control will make an immediate comparison with the one associated with the Apple TV. Similarities include general design, shape, button layout and presumed size. It looks like a cross of the Siri remote, but with the silver metal body of the previous Apple Remote.

At the top is a slightly raised black surface with rounded corners and what appears to be a touch of entry in the middle. It is unclear whether it is a d-pad or a touchpad. Then a button bearing the OnePlus logo is followed by a vertical oval occupying two locations. These are the standard Android controls for getting home.

Although all other keys are black with white marks, the Google Assistant button is colorful and highly visible. The OnePlus TV remote is complemented by a menu and a blank key that could have been intentionally masked for this teaser.

An interesting design choice is a volume rocker with chamfered edges on the right. It's something you expect to find on a phone or tablet, but not on a remote. The entire device is loaded via USB-C, as the founder of OnePlus confirmed on Twitter.

The possible use of rigid touch buttons and different colors should in principle answer the main complaints of the Apple remote. The first explains how easy it is to accidentally slide the touch surface, while the last contrast highlights the top and bottom.
