With a new pair of wireless headphones
This time of year is usually when we see leaks for an upcoming OnePlus flagship – usually a remixed version of any device that arrived in the spring. However, we’ve known for a few weeks that a potential OnePlus 9T isn’t meant to be, with the company focusing on its ColorOS and OxygenOS merger as well as its already existing line of smartphones. The OnePlus 9RT is real, however, and thanks to a new teaser, we finally know when it will arrive.
According to a social media post on Weibo, OnePlus is hosting a launch event in China for its upcoming phone on October 13 (via XDA Developers). Renderings show the OnePlus 9RT in silver, with a new camera layout on the back of the device. The Buds Z2 – a successor to last year’s Buds Z headphones – are launching at the same time.
The company recently confirmed that the T series is being discontinued for the foreseeable future, as it plans to develop specific models for various regions. The OnePlus 9RT is exactly that – a new version of this year’s OnePlus 9R that will be sold exclusively in China and India. Previous leaks have indicated that it is not too different from the original model, offering upgraded cameras and OxygenOS 12 out of the box – although even Pixel devices have yet to receive an upgrade to Android 12, it seems more unlikely by the day.
Along with these announcements, the two Evan blass and Ishan Agarwal leaked renderings and images of upcoming OnePlus products. Visually, neither the phone nor the new headphones stray too far from their predecessors, minus a few slight tweaks.
While we wouldn’t expect the 9RT to arrive outside of China and India, the availability of the Z2 Buds remains a mystery. We’ll have to keep waiting to find out where OnePlus’ latest headphones might end up in the rest of the world.
