OnePlus Watch gets the launch confirmation we needed

The OnePlus Watch will appear on March 23 alongside the OnePlus 9 series, the company confirmed today. In a short teaser on Twitter and a follow-up post on their forums, OnePlus teased the laptop with a set of images and a bit of a pun by referring to “clock,” “watch” and “time” throughout. along their entrance. They weren’t subtle, but that sort of was the point.

We all know the OnePlus Watch has been in the works for some time and was confirmed earlier this year by OnePlus CEO Pete Lau. We think it might be available in two sizes and hope it ends up running Wear OS, but we have our doubts.

The Wear OS piece of this story is really a big question mark. OnePlus has publicly stated that it is working with Google to improve Wear OS, but they never officially linked this upcoming watch to Wear OS and instead spoke about it as separate topics. It certainly worries me that OnePlus is releasing a fitness-focused watch instead that is more of an upgrade to its new fitness band rather than a standalone Wear OS device. In fact, we’ve already seen hints about sharing the OnePlus Health app with the OnePlus Band.

OnePlus at least told us that the OnePlus Watch will help us stay “healthy, on time, and even take care of you while you sleep.” To translate there, it means it will be health tracker, keep time and have sleep tracker. Wear OS still doesn’t have sleep tracking, so unless OnePlus has a plan to build it in there, I’m going to continue to lean to make it just an upgraded version of the OnePlus Band without the operating system from Google.

In the pictures below, we get some design clues with what appears to be a sporty rubber strap and metal frame with lots of curves. Must be a round watch, right?

More than a few days!
