Oopsie-doopsie! Walmart has dispatched Oculus quests in advance

On Reddit this week, a handful of people reported that their stand-alone RV helmets ordered by Walmart were delivered much earlier than expected (example one and example two). In fact, two of them already have pictures of their helmets at home, linked in the last sentence, in their hands. He does not go out for nearly three full weeks.

We contacted Facebook about the situation and received the following statement from a spokesperson:

An error in shipping in the retail business resulted in the shipment of a limited number of Quest helmets pre-ordered earlier than planned by Walmart. The affected customers are notified and the problem has been fixed. Since our software was not released prior to launch, users will not be able to install or use their headset before the official launch on May 21st.

It seems that whatever the mistake that caused it has been corrected, do not rush too fast to try to place your order at Walmart. And even if you have access to a quest earlier than expected, it will not do you much good. You can not even configure it for the moment because the Oculus mobile app does not yet include the Quest as an option. It means you can not really do anything with it.

After leaks regarding the Rift S at the 2019 Game Developers Conference, and then on the release date just before the announcement announced earlier this week, Facebook has struggled to keep things close to the chest. With the Quest already waiting a few days, we hope they will have no trouble coping with the demand as they did in 2016 with the original Rift.
