SportsLine's prediction model, built by DFS professional Mike McClure, allowed five major teams to enter the weekend, including Koepka's historic victory at the 2019 PGA Championship. He also described Tiger Woods' deep race in last year's PGA Championship, despite a 25-1 shot.
The model was also showcased during the 2018-19 season. Champion Rory McIlroy won the title at the Players Championship, making him one of the top two contenders from the start. He also correctly predicted Koepka's (9-1) win at the CJ Cup earlier this season. Spieth ranks 186th on the PGA Tour in the number of strokes won off the tee, averaging 0.390 per lap against the average round player in the tee. Indeed, Spieth hits only 52.72% of fairways and ranks 80th in driving distance. It does not hit far enough to control Pebble Beach.
