  • Oppo teased a new phone with a retractable screen.
  • The company will show it off on November 17 at its Inno Day tech event.
  • It wouldn’t be the only roll-up phone in the works.

Oppo’s next Inno Day tech event is a platform for the company to showcase its new merchandise and technology that we will eventually see in its future products. Last week, the Chinese phone maker announced a new AR Glass handheld it plans to announce at the event on November 17. Now Oppo has teased another Inno Day product that just might steal the show from LG – a roll-up phone.

The company took to Weibo and Twitter to tease a new phone with a retractable screen. “Big screen? Small screen? Infinite screen? In the future, your cell phone may be able to retract freely,” the Weibo article read.

The teaser also comes with an image that shows a curved corner and a screen extending out of the phone’s chassis. That same concept phone image was used on Twitter, with Oppo claiming the device would “usher in a new era of screen.” Find out below.

Oppo hasn’t revealed much else, but at first glance it could be a prototype or concept phone like what TCL showed earlier this year. There are rumors that LG is working on a similar rollable phone, but could Oppo beat LG in terms of marketing? It’s not yet clear, but LG already announced a roll-up phone design when it launched the Wing, and rumors point to a March 2021 launch.

We hope that Oppo will show a working device and also give us a taste of how the software would adapt to roll-up screens. The future of phones seems flexible and Oppo seems to be in the thick of it. We can’t wait to see what lies ahead.
