Oprah Winfrey talks to another famous couple tonight. Super Soul: Chip and Joanna Gaines: Magnolia airs today on Discovery + and will be available as a podcast on March 17.

In it, the Upper Fixator Power couple talk about the fame award, with Chip admitting he “lost a part of me” to get famous in a promotional clip for the conference.

“I found out that fame is right, your life is the same, you are the same, and everyone has an idea what it is, it’s just more people know your name,” said Chip. “And I think if you don’t know who you are when the fame comes along, you get lost.”

Oprah then asked, “Did you all start to feel that way, or did you know you were grounded before the fame hit?”

Chip used the question to congratulate his wife, Joanna. “I want to speak for Jo, because she would never say things like that, but she’s so incredibly wise, so incredibly grounded – all the things you just described is who Joanna is.”

He added: “What really happened – and it was the truth for Jo and I – didn’t matter to her, but in order for me to become famous I lost a part of me that was really … it was sad, “he admits. . “I would say it took me a year or two while I was still filming to try to figure out exactly what I was losing.”

The couple recently returned to action after a hiatus. They left their Upper Fixator broadcast on HGTV in 2017.

Winfrey asked why they left. “There were a lot of things,” Joanna said. “On my side, when you shoot for four or five years, you start to lose the ‘why’. Now it’s just this thing as if we were introducing ourselves. I think towards the end we just lost speed, we lost the goal. We wanted to wake up everyday and say that is why we are doing this. It almost felt like wagging our tail and controlling ourselves.

Originally, the couple’s Magnolia Network was supposed to take over Discovery’s DIY network on October 4, 2020 after a rebranding, followed by a direct-to-consumer product launch at a later date. When the coronavirus pandemic hit and shut down all Hollywood production, the launch of the linear network was delayed. Meanwhile, Discovery launched its SVOD Discovery + platform last month, as the pandemic accelerated the shift of traditional media companies to streaming as a leading distribution method.

The Magnolia brand has been a key part of the Discovery + line with previews of several of its original series, led by the new season of the Gaines hit. Upper Fixator.
