Oprah Winfrey says that she left "60 Minutes" because the show "flattened my personality"

[ad_1]

Oprah Winfrey said she was no longer working for "60 minutes", claiming that the legendary news magazine did not suit her.

"This was not the best format for me," Winfrey told the Hollywood Reporter in a profile of the latest issue of his magazine.

"How should I say that? It's never a good thing to get me to say my name and tell me that my name has too much emotion, "she continued. "I think I made seven names just because it was too emotional.I think:" Is there too much emotion in the Oprah part or in the Winfrey part? "I was working to degrade myself and flatten my personality, which for me is not such a good thing."

The news of Oprah's comments to THR was first reported late Monday night by Brian Stelter of CNN in his newsletter Reliable Sources.

Representatives of "60 minutes" did not immediately respond to TheWrap's request for comment.

Winfrey was named "special contributor" to "60 Minutes" with fanfare in January 2017.

"There is only one Oprah Winfrey," said at the time the executive producer of "60 Minutes," Jeff Fager, in a press release of the time. "She has achieved excellence in everything that she has touched. His work is amazing and includes thousands of interviews with people from all walks of life. She is a remarkable and talented woman, with a level of integrity that sets her apart from others and makes her a perfect choice for '60 Minutes. 'I am delighted that she brings her unique and powerful voice to our show.'

Winfrey herself had been exuberant about the collaboration.

"I am so excited and proud to be associated with this historic program of events which for me represents the bastion of journalistic storytelling," she said in the same release.

In October 2018, Oprah officially withdrew from the program to help Georgia's candidate for the position of governor, Stacey Abrams, who ultimately lost a tight race against Republican rival Brian Kemp. Winfrey's relationship with the network was previously in limbo.
