AURORA, Colorado – A burning brush fire in a wetland in Cherry Creek State Park has forced evacuations in the area.

Evacuations are in effect for residents of the immediate area west of Parker Road and those inside Cherry Creek State Park.

This is the second major brush fire crew to fight amid strong gusts of wind in the metro area. A 100-acre grass fire burning near Bear Creek Lake Park and Fox Hollow Golf Course near Morrison caused evacuations on Sunday afternoon. The majority of the fire was extinguished by late afternoon.

South Metro firefighters are at the scene of the Cherry Creek blaze and are working to gain control of the blaze before the length of the flames swells with continuous gusts of wind. No structure is threatened for the moment.

Firefighters said the wind was feeding the northwest side of the blaze, making suppression difficult and dangerous with embers entering trees and causing branches to fall.
