An Oregon nurse who bragged about TikTok for not wearing a mask when outside of work, causing negative reactions on the platform, has been put on administrative leave, according to her employer.
Salem Health said the nurse, who was only identified by her username “LoveIsKind05”, “showed cavalier disregard for the severity of this pandemic,” the hospital said on Saturday on Facebook.
“This video sparked an uproar from concerned community members. We would like to thank those of you who brought this to our attention and assure you that we take this very seriously. This person is not speaking to the name of Salem Health and has been placed under administrative responsibility to quit pending an investigation, ”Salem Health said.
The nurse, who said she worked in oncology, used an audio clip from the 2000 film “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” and said her facial reactions in the video were in response to “when his colleagues [sic] find out I’m still traveling, don’t wear a mask when I go out and let my kids have dates. “
The video and the “LoveIsKind05” account appear to have been deleted, but a duet with the video, a TikTok feature that allows other users to show their reaction or response, is still available on the platform. It seems that the person posting the duo has no relation to “LoveIsKind05”.
Salem Health said she wanted to assure the public that the nurse’s statement “does not reflect the position of Salem Health or the hardworking and dedicated caregivers who work here.”
“Salem Health believes that we must all do our part to protect vulnerable people and stop the rapid spread of Covid-19. This involves requiring staff, patients and visitors to follow the advice of the CDC and of others on mask wearing and social distancing “, instruction reads.
A weekly report on workplace outbreaks released by the state of Oregon shows that Salem Health has a total of 91 employee-related Covid-19 cases.
Data from the Oregon Health Authority shows that the most recent cases posted on its site Friday showed 2,314 new cases in the state and 18 new deaths.
NBC News has contacted Salem Health for further comment and to inquire about the nurse’s identity.
