Orioles put two players on COVID-19 injured list

The Orioles placed the outfielder Antoine Santander and left-handed Keegan Akin | on the COVID-19 injured list. Voltigeur Ryan mckenna and left-handed Alexander wells were recalled from Triple-A Norfolk to replace them on the active roster.

There is no indication at this point that Santander or Akin have tested positive for COVID-19. Players can land on the IL to experience symptoms or for viral exposure. COVID-19 IL does not come with a minimum of relays.

Santander has got most of the playing time this season in right field. It hits .231 / .280 / .387 out of 247 plate appearances, down from last year’s strong .261 / .315 / .575 line. Akin, meanwhile, has made thirteen appearances (including eight starts) this year. He threw 48 1/3 of a 8.19 ERA / 4.62 SIERA ball. The left-hander had been the scheduled starter for this afternoon’s game against the Rays. Wells will take the ball instead.
