Orlando brownThe left tackle or bust quest led to the three-year-old Ravens starter asking for a trade. The Ravens are listening to the 24-year-old tackle’s offerings and Brown’s camp is now exploring potential destinations.
Brown’s reps have started exploring the trades, according to ESPN.com’s Jeremy Fowler, who adds that the Ravens are aware of their good tackle plans (Twitter link). However, the Ravens are certainly the key part here. They are surely looking for high value commercial transport.
Ronnie stanleyThe season-ending injury prompted the Ravens to use Brown as a left tackle. Previously, Brown had played the role of Baltimore’s tackle pitcher against Stanley. A former third-round pick, Brown has one more season on his rookie contract.
Pro Football Focus has rated Brown as one of the top 25 tackles in each of the past two seasons, and the proven O-linemen have garnered enormous interest as free agents every year. There appear to be several teams interested in acquiring Brown through trade. The Ravens having extended Stanley last year will cut Brown’s path to left tackle in Baltimore, but as of now, the second-generation NFL tackle remains the team’s right tackle.
Trading Brown would further deplete Baltimore’s offensive line. Marshal YandaThe latter’s retirement created an inside vacuum for the Ravens, who now have Stanley who suffered a serious injury. However, the Ravens making a deal would ensure additional draft capital with which to bolster their O-line.
If the Ravens trade Brown, the acquiring team will need to be prepared to give him a high-end extension. A 2022 franchise tag could also be used, by the Ravens or the acquiring team, to lock down Brown. Stanley, David Bakhtiari and business acquisition 2019 Laremy Tunsil have changed the market on the left tackle. Tunsil and Bakhtiari pushed it past $ 22 million a year. The tackle contract top right (Lane johnsons) averages $ 18 million per year.
