Oro’s Tengu Stone has a new feature that no other V-Trigger has in Street Fighter 5

Fans of Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition are counting the days until August 16, when Oro and Akira, the next two DLC characters, will be released into the wild.

Capcom gave us all a brilliant presentation this week via the Summer Update stream to show more of the abilities these two will have, and while there was a ton to deal with there, we’d like to point out one particular note that took us by surprise: Oro’s V-Trigger 2.

The Ancient Hermit’s VT2 is his Tengu Stone ability, which sees him telekinetically summon a few items (mostly rocks, though other items that do more damage or stun may also appear) that will help him expand. combos against his opponents.

Standard Tengu Stone summons 3 items

What’s so interesting about this trigger is the fact that the developers added an extra layer of choice for players upon activation: they can do a standard activation and get three items, or they can press during activation and summon a total of five (Pierre Tengu Midare).

Five items mean more hitstuns and more powerful combos, but Tengu Midare Stone has a catch: it drains the V-Gauge much faster.

We obviously haven’t been able to look at many details in terms of how many additional meters are burned or what types of new Midare combos allow access, but this idea of even more choice is a very nice one. aspect as we near the end of Street Fighter 5 and almost expect Street Fighter 6 on the horizon.

Capcom has evolved SF5 into this avenue of expression and player choice for most of its lifespan, as gamers initially complained that the characters were way too linear in the way they played.

The developers have since added second V-Skills and second V-Triggers to create varied approaches for the game’s 40+ avatars, and have done so already.

Some characters already have a decent sense of versatility when using unique triggers. Vega, for example, can throw his VT1 rose from the ground or into the air while Menat can send his VT2 orbs in different ways.

Still, no character yet has the option of making a choice like this when activating where they can get a more powerful version of the trigger himself.

We’re excited to get our hands on Oro and explore the nuances of this new take on using V-Trigger, but what do you think of this call from the developers? Do you hope and think this trend will continue in Capcom’s next Street Fighter entry? Will you be using Tengu Stone or the simpler Manrikitan VT1?
