Oscar Tshiebwe, a former five-star prospect who announced his transfer from West Virginia last week, has signed up with the University of Kentucky, he tells 247Sports.
“I love Kentucky and feel like it’s the perfect place for me,” Tshiebwe said. “I think I’ll get better. I like the way they play and everything. “
The 6-foot-9, 260-pound center has already been recruited by John calipari leaving high school so a familiarity was already there.
Tshiebwe’s move comes just six days after entering the transfer portal, in a week consisting of three more Zoom meetings with Miami, Illinois and NC State.
“He told me it would be my house,” Tshiebwe said of the Calipari land. “He said, I’m going to come here and I’m going to help them team up and they are going to help me get good.”
The former McDonald’s All American withdrew from the West Virginia program for personal reasons on January 1 and while it was not an easy decision, he is excited about his new chapter.
“It means a lot,” he said of what it means to him. “First off it was tough because I’m making a tough decision, but it means a lot and it’s time to go to work and stay focused.
Tshiebwe has averaged 8.5 points and 7.8 rebounds in seven games played this season and makes him a big murderer. As a rookie, Tshiebwe averages 11.2 points, 9.3 rebounds and one block per game.
“Just to bring what I can do and I can learn from them,” he said of what he will bring to the Wildcats program. “I’m a hard worker and I can get better and I know the coaches are going to help me get better.
Tshiebwe will be enrolling in Kentucky this semester and is expected to be eligible to play in the fall of 2021.
