Oscars 2021: shortlisted in 9 categories at the 93rd Academy Awards

The academy released the 2021 Academy Award lists in nine categories on Tuesday, February 9. Prospects from a wide range of races have found out if they are still in the running for the 93rd Academy Awards. Among these are the flagship categories of Best International Feature Film (which was reduced to 10 films out of the 93 submitted) and Best Documentary Feature (which dropped from 238 to 15).

The two music awards – Best Original Song and Best Original Music – were awarded to just 15 nominees out of over 100 submissions each. The races for the best make-up and hairstyle and the best visual effects as well as the three awards for the short films – animation, documentary and live-action – were selected from dozens of entries to 10 each.

Two hundred and thirty-eight films were eligible for review; there are 15 on the shortlist. The members of the documentary branch vote to determine the shortlist and the nominees. The films, listed alphabetically by title, are:

Ten films advanced. Members of the Makeup Artists and Hairdressers Branch will be invited to view 7-minute clips of each of the shortlisted films on Saturday March 6, 2021. Members will vote to submit five films. The films, listed alphabetically by title, are:

All members of the Visual Effects Directorate will be invited to view 10-minute clips of each of the shortlisted films on Saturday, March 6, 2021. After screenings, members will vote to nominate five films for final Oscar consideration. The films, listed alphabetically by title, are:
