OTA Eagles practice notes: The connection between Carson Wentz and DeSean Jackson is good

The Philadelphia Eagles resumed their online training program on Tuesday. The session was open to the media and I was there. Keep in mind that these are all contactless exercises at this stage. Players are not yet allowed to wear tablets. There are so many things to glean from the guys running in shorts, but here's what I noticed.

CARSON WENTZ UPDATE: Louis Riddick might be on something because Wentz looked terribly alive today. I did not see him incomplete in the 3-on-3 exercises. Wentz dropped a penny to Zach Ertz along the sideline during 11-on-11. He then hit DeSean Jackson in the middle of the center about 35 yards for a touchdown. Wentz found a Jackson open for another touchdown in the red zone exercises. Wentz and Jackson have not hooked up a 40-meter bomb yet – Wentz aired one today, but Rasul Douglas was well covered and incomplete – but they already seem to have good chemistry in the passing game short and intermediate. This is an encouraging sign so early in the off season. Another highlight came when Wentz threw a pass to JJ Arcega-Whiteside, who made one of his iconic strikes in the corner of the end zone. Sidney Jones basically had Moss'd in the cover. It's nice to see that Wentz has that kind of confidence after struggling to do it, sometimes in 2018. It was not a no-fault practice for Wentz because Kamu Grugier-Hill and Jones have broke many of their attempts, but there was a lot more good than bad.

PARTICIPATION UPDATES: Malcolm Jenkins, Alison Jeffery, Lane Johnson and Jason Peters are still not on OTA. Zach Brown was in training after missing last week's session, but he did not participate at all. Brown was chatting with Jim Schwartz before practice.

INJURY UPDATES: Mack Hollins, Ronald Darby, Jalen Mills, Rodney McLeod, Corey Clement, Nigel Bradham and Brandon Brooks (see the video update below) are still recovering. Miles Sanders still has not practiced; We do not know why. Linebackers Nathan Gerry and Paul Worrilow did not train after taking part in last week's session. Gerry was rehabilitating on a secondary lot.

UPDATES OF THE DEPTH TABLE: Avonte Maddox was playing outside with the team's defense first while Jones was working in the slot. Last week, it was the opposite. The Eagles are experimenting with their defensive defense options as they should. L.J. Fort and Kamu Grugier-Hill hired representatives of the linebacker with Bradham, Brown and Gerry who were not training.

• Nate Sudfeld was again and again. He held the ball too long before throwing to a catcher on a passing road. As a result, Josh Hawkins has managed to degrade the road for a choice of six. Sudfeld also reversed a quick inclination to Charles Johnson. Sudfeld earned praise from the coaches and his teammates after beating Richard Rodgers on a melt in the back corner of the end zone for a touchdown.

• Linebacker T.J. Edwards has broken down a few times. The Wisconsin alumna blasted a screen and smashed a pass over the center for Wendell Smallwood. Edwards would have received the most secured money ever signed by the Eagles UDFA. He could really push for a spot in the lineup.

• Grugier-Hill also had an active practice. He repelled the bad pitch from rookie quarterback Clayton Thorson during the 3-for-3 drills. Kamu also knocked down a goal-line pass destined for Dallas Goedert. He started watching the close end of the second year and shouting "GET THAT SHIT OUTTA HERE" on him. Love the energy of Kamu.

• One of the centerpieces of the practice was a reception of … Carlton Agudosi?! The Rutgers alumnus caught Clayton Thorson's wobbly pass at the back of the field. Avonte Maddox and Rasul Douglas had covered Agudosi well; the ball should have been withdrawn … but the receiver of 6 to 6 spectators followed the ball better than his defensive backs. This is perhaps the only time I write about Agudosi throughout the off season.

• The receipt of the ball touch by Arcega-Whiteside from Wentz was really impressive. Fantastic body control and strong hands. JJ almost made another impressive jump on the sideline, but he lost control as he was "contacted". This is the second week in a row that I have seen this happen. He must obviously do a better job of finishing these pieces.

• Some highlights for the hive Boston Scott: the running back has had a nice reception on a wheel course. He also saw a first-team representative where he handed over the transfer to Wentz, who forged links with Nelson Agholor in the thick of the field. Chip twinkle!

• DeSan Jackson, Boston Scott, Donnel Pumphrey and DeAndre Thompkins were the punt kickers during the trials. Jackson is the only lock in the lineup at this point and it would be surprising if he is the player who returns full time. I wonder about the Eagles' plan here.

• Cameron Johnston was starting up. It seems good. There is a very important observation for you. (But really just for Alexis Chassen from BGN.)

• Shelton Gibson and Sidney Jones were the first gunners on the punt cover. Maybe a good sign for Gibson as he tries to fight for a fifth or sixth place in the lineup?

• Blake Countess was the first personal protector of the team.

• The non-rookie offensive lineman, the lineman, Ryan Bates, aligns with the right tackle on the offensive line of the second team, but also gets center representatives in Exercises 7 through 7.

• Update #NicknameAnalytics: Before practicing, Jim Schwartz called Andrew Sendejo "Dejo" (pronounced: Day-ho). That could be a good sign for the odds of his lineup and therefore a bad sign for the Eagles, setting another compensating fourth-round pick in 2020.

• Update #JerseyNumberAnalytics: Casey Tucker is number 50. This is an offensive tackle. It's a horrible choice. I really wonder if he even takes this opportunity from the NFL seriously. Does he even know that he is not a linebacker?
