The UFC removed undefeated lightweight Ottman Azaitar from its active roster on Friday, just a day before he faced Matt Frevola at UFC 257 on Fight Island in Yas Island, Abu Dhabi.

Azaitar (13-0), an exciting German-Moroccan lightweight with 10 career knockouts, was withdrawn from UFC 257 after committing a “violation of health and safety protocols” at the W hotel in Abu Dhabi. UFC President Dana White told BT Sport his security team identified an unauthorized person entering the fight hotel with a bracelet provided by Azaitar to deliver a bag to the fighter’s room.

β€œIt’s just bad,” White said. “He’s gone. He’s not a UFC fighter anymore, and he’s not fighting [at UFC 257]. “

White said the individual had “turned” on several balconies to enter Azaitar’s room. Azaitar and his entire team were kicked off the property on Friday, sources told ESPN.

The UFC is heading towards its third live event on Fight Island in seven days. All athletes, staff and media in the W hotel bubble have been repeatedly tested for COVID-19 and undergone a 48-hour quarantine upon arrival at the hotel.

Frevola has been postponed to face Arman Tsarukyan in the UFC 257 prelims. Tsarukyan’s initial opponent has been kicked off the map for medical reasons.
