Our first look at Penn State practice since 2019

Penn State hosted members of the media in a few practice spells late Saturday afternoon for the first time since 2019. Heavy cloud cover helped relieve the heat for Preseason Camp Practice 2 of the Nittany Lions.

Within hours of speaking with Penn State players and coaches at Beaver Stadium, we were back at the PSU Outdoor Training Facility, which has undergone some improvements since the last visit. It was an opportunity to monitor physical development on the pitch, assess the competitive environment and listen to several assistant coaches who have been hired since we were allowed to attend training.

The session lasted over 20 minutes and allowed us to follow linemen on both sides of the ball, one-on-one passing drills and the work of the special teams. Penn State opened its preseason camp on Friday, and the schedule is now exactly four weeks away from kick-off in Week 1 in Wisconsin.

“We’re bigger, stronger and faster than we’ve ever been,” Nittany Lions head coach James franklin said Saturday. “We’re part of the argument in pretty much every category or metric, whatever you want to put it. I like where we are with the first day of training yesterday.”
